The sailing catamaran Largyalo is the ideal platform for the project The Ark of Ideas.
The basic design and unique layout by the world renown catamaran designer James Wharram, stems from the original Polynesian craftsmen, which dominated the South seas over a thousand years ago.
Built almost entirely of wood, it is 20 mtrs long and 10 mtrs wide, it offers 150 sqm of deckspace and eight sleeping cabins, four bathrooms, galley, salon and chartroom. Ten guests and four crewmembers can comfortably be accommodated. At receptions and on day trips, up to 30 persons can be aboard.
The boat’s construction and energy concept are unique, and so is her charisma.
Thus, the catamaran becomes a catalyst for messages with an exemplary character.
The center deck and the stern platform offer large, completely flat areas for multiple use. The main part of the hull deck as well as the bow netting serve as additional seating or lie down space. There is hardly any other vessel in this size, that provides such generous space for events.
This vessel is a floating state-of-the-art laboratory. The catamaran’s energy concept is based upon the synthesis of nature and high tech. A highly innovative project in collaboration with various corporations, universities and inventors. The entire energy supply works in an environmentally friendly way and makes the ship independent of fossil fuels. Innovations are applied, which can revolutionize the market for energy technology.
The realisation of this energy concept shall prove that a selfsufficient energy supply without the use of fossil fuels is possible in the densely populated microcosm “ship”, without restriction of security, comfort and living quality on board.

New website of The Ark of Ideas
Our new website is now online in a first version. For the time being, its purpose is mainly to gain experience about the acceptance of the layout, clarity and user guidance.
The first Web 2 elements are activated, others, dealing directly with the activities on board and the onshore events will be added in due time.
This website is aiming to build up a big and lively community, that is actively participating in the climate protection initiative. To grant a maximum of spontaneity, no registration is necessary to participate in dialogs or ratings. However, for functions like the social network or the placement of portraits into the “community sails”, it will be necessary to set up a user profile.

The Ark of Ideas as a floating cinema
Our catamaran Largyalo will be transformed into a floating cinema. Due to the size and construction of the vessel, it offers the opportunity to set up an entire screening unit ( beamer and screen) onto the deck, and show movies via backward projection.
The width of the projection can be almost 10 meters, and the screen can be put up sideways as well as abeam. Thus, we can show interesting documentaries and reportages in ports or very close to the shore and even in busy anchorages as a “dinghy-drive-in” cinema.
