Prof. Dr. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber CBE, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
Climate change is putting human capacities to the ultimate test: Will we be able to avoid at least the severest impacts of climate change and to adapt to a nevertheless rapidly changing environment? The Ark of Ideas is a point of condensation for the many considerations and fantasies needed to develop and implement sustainable solutions. The project sets an excellent example for the paradigm of thinking globally and acting locally.
Prof. Dr. Dr. F.J. Radermacher,
Initiator of the
Director of Research Institute for Application Oriented Knowledge Processing (FAW), Ulm
The Ark is a strong image carrying ideas out into the world that sustain humanity’s option on a fulfilled future. At the same time, the “Ark” is an interesting platform for communication and education in times of globalization.
With the climate issue, the “Ark” is taking up a decisive topic of Global Governance, that implies matters of equity, North-South Cooperation, the us of Global Commons, market issues and technical progress. Figuring out a sustainable solution enables a concept of climate equity in the framework of a global Cap-and-Trade solution. This approach is represented by the Club of Rome, the Eco-Social Forum of Europe, the Global Marshall Plan Initiative, the Federal Association for the Promotion of Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA), the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research, as well as German and Indian politics.
This should be considered on a large scale, especially in this time of world-wide financial crisis. The global economy must be influenced by ecologic, social and cultural aspects: This is fundamental for a cultural system, global ethics and human rights.
Prof. Dr. Dr.h.c. Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker,
Dean and Professor, Donald Bren School of
Environmental Science and Management, UC Santa Barbara CA
“An Ark of Ideas crossing the oceans pursuing a common task! The most exciting common task of our days is mitigating global warming and developing climate-friendly technologies and habits.”

Sálvano Briceño,
Director of the UN Inter-Agency Secretariat of the International
Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR)
“The Ark of Ideas is a vehicle for opening up dialog between those who generate know-ledge and those who develop environmental policies, taking into consideration the needs of local people and communities, particularly those who suffer directly from disasters caused by vulnerability to natural threats and climate change.”

Michael Zammit Cutajar,
Former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations
"The Ark of Ideas is a new and imaginative contribution to raising awareness of the challenge of global climate change and of the proactive part that each of us can play in responding to it. And, through its web-based network, it reaches out to countless others, seeking to engage them in this unusual voyage of discovery.

New website of The Ark of Ideas
Our new website is now online in a first version. For the time being, its purpose is mainly to gain experience about the acceptance of the layout, clarity and user guidance.
The first Web 2 elements are activated, others, dealing directly with the activities on board and the onshore events will be added in due time.
This website is aiming to build up a big and lively community, that is actively participating in the climate protection initiative. To grant a maximum of spontaneity, no registration is necessary to participate in dialogs or ratings. However, for functions like the social network or the placement of portraits into the “community sails”, it will be necessary to set up a user profile.

The Ark of Ideas as a floating cinema
Our catamaran Largyalo will be transformed into a floating cinema. Due to the size and construction of the vessel, it offers the opportunity to set up an entire screening unit ( beamer and screen) onto the deck, and show movies via backward projection.
The width of the projection can be almost 10 meters, and the screen can be put up sideways as well as abeam. Thus, we can show interesting documentaries and reportages in ports or very close to the shore and even in busy anchorages as a “dinghy-drive-in” cinema.
